No Secret Oil Deals - Rally Recap

Thank you!

We are still feeling so empowered from the rally at the Alaska Supreme Court last month! Dozens of community members showed up to demand transparency in the largest oil deal of our generation, and shared experiences, stories, and hope for a #justtransition in Alaska's energy future.

Thank you to all who participated, either in-person or online, to all of the artists who joined our banner making parties, and to all who raised their voices and spread the word about this monumental court case.

This video gives a great recap of the issue, what's at stake, and the rally itself. While we await a verdict, we encourage you to continue to keep up this conversation going in your communities - sharing this video is a great place to start!

ACTION ALERT: Chugach Electric Rate Hike

If you're a Chugach Electric customer, your bills are probably about to go up–all told, about 5.9%. That's about $150-200 per year.

However, nothing is set in stone, yet, because Chugach Electric needs to make its case before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, and the public can weigh in too!

To submit a comment on the case, you can email rca.mail@alaska.gov with the subject including "Docket TA544-8". The deadline to comment is 5 pm on August 4, 2023.

AKPIRG Archives On the Move

Last week, we moved 60 boxes of vintage AKPIRG documents from the University of Alaska Anchorage Archives! We are excited to digitize these pieces of AKPIRG history and share highlights of AKPIRG’s work as we discover them.

We are so grateful to the UAA Consortium Library for safely storing these relics for public use for so many decades, and we look forward to reflecting on AKPIRG's past while we move forward. Help us to continue our long legacy of protecting the public interest in Alaska with a donation today!

Submit a Comment to Support Student Debt Relief

President Biden's plan to provide around $10,000 of relief to folks with student debt was struck down by the Supreme Court. To fulfill his campaign promises to address the student debt crisis, President Biden now needs to go through another extensive rule-making process.

As part of that process, the government is currently accepting comments from the public.

Let your voice be heard and tell the government you think that folks with student debt deserve the relief they were promised:
