Announcement: Veri di Suvero to step down as AKPIRG’s Executive Director
ANCHORAGE - January 22, 2025
Dear AKPIRG Community,
I’m writing to let you know that after more than six amazing years, I’ve made the tough decision to step down from my role as Executive Director at AKPIRG this coming June.
When I became AKPIRG’s Executive Director, I had one big goal: to leave the organization better than when I found it. That has included so much over the past years, from shaping our internal policies to match our values, to incredible program successes, and building an amazing team. This role has been the honor of a lifetime.
It is because our team is so strong and our projects so exciting that it feels like the right moment to leave. I care deeply about AKPIRG’s mission, and I know that it is much bigger than any one of us. Leadership transitions can only be successful if the right supports are in place. And I can say without reservation that this organization is full of remarkable people who will be an amazing collective to welcome an incoming Executive Director.
The recruitment and hiring process for AKPIRG’s next Executive Director will begin in the next couple of weeks – keep your eyes peeled for the job posting, and please share with people you know who might be a good fit.
The work that our members have made possible is an incredible source of pride for me, as I hope it is for you. In the past six years, we secured a better count for the 2020 Census and more representative redistricted maps; we stopped a major grocery store merger and the tripling of phone bills; we exposed the private misdealings of oil and utility companies; we wrote and passed legislation that supports our financial and ecological health, and so much more. For just a recent taste of our team’s accomplishments, the 2024 Annual Report demonstrates our impressive and impactful work.
I can’t wait to see what AKPIRG does next, and I’m looking forward to supporting this organization into the future.
